Wood Trap Doors are usable pieces of furniture that can be crafted in your Crafting Menu (opened by "Q" as the default key) or at Crafting Tables (that still exist in older worlds).
The crafting recipe for Wood Trap Doors will be unlocked by
- crafting or taking a Wood Door (the crafting recipe for this one is already in your Crafting Menu from the start)
- and crafting or taking a Wood Table (after crafting a Wood Chest and a Wood Floor)
It's a trap! ...Door!
To craft 1 Wood Trap Door, you'll need (as of R35 in October 2016):
- 1x Melted Wax, made of Beeswax in a Forge or looted from Wood Treasure Chests or Stone Treasure Chests
- 2 Wood Slabs made from any kind of Wood or Logs in a Processor
- 2 Stone Rods, made of Stone, Limestone or Bedrock in a Processor or found in Stone Treasure Chests
Wood Trap Doors can be opened and closed after being placed by activating them (right-click or "F" as the default key). If you place two of these trap doors next to each other, they will both open and close simultaneously together when being activated.
|Wood Trap Doors can be wired up with activation devices like Switches, Number Pads or Pressure Plates. Trap Doors will then serve as receivers and can either be opened or closed. Their interactivity can be toggled and defined with permission settings.|
You can rotate Wood Trap Doors (hold down "R" and use your left mouse-button to move them), however only sideways by any usual means, not vertically.
Wood Trap Doors can be used for decoration as some sort of side-boards or wall-tables, however you cannot place anything onto these Trap Doors directly, only above them by "sticking" placeable blocks or objects to the wall sideways.
Creatures cannot open closed doors of any kind, so they also cannot open trap doors - but some might be able to use their special attacks through doors on your character if they are close enough, so better be careful.
Creatures currently avoid stepping on trap doors when walking around, and even if you manage to make them walk over trap doors that open under them at the right moment, creatures will not fall down (as of August 2016).
Attention: Wood Trap Doors are flammable! When placing Wood Trap Doors into hot environments close to (or especially directly above) torches or fiery blocks (like Hardened Lava), Wood Trap Doors can easily start to burn. Liquid Lava or Fire Bombs will immediately set them on fire.
If Wood Trap Doors start burning, also other flammable blocks nearby can catch fire, and this way a whole wooden house or forest (especially Wildwood, Parchwood and Shorewood) can burn down in hot biomes like Jungles, Savannahs, Shores or on the Lava layer.
Since update R33 2/3 you cannot burn flammable blocks like Wood Trap Doors on Claims by default, and fire also will not spread on claims - however this option can be toggled by the owner of the claims.
Fire cannot be "extinguished" currently (as of R34 in September 2016) other than by claiming the area. The spreading of fire can alternatively be stopped by creating forest aisles/swaths wide enough and fast enough so the flames cannot leap over, which is hard to accomplish. Water or other Liquids cannot extinguish fire.
Since R32 you won't need to equip any Power Cells to pick up any kind of crafted objects or blocks that have been placed into the world. Of course you won't be able to take these objects on claims of other players (or in worlds) where your permission level is set low (to "visitor").
Currently (as of R33 in August 2016), pieces of furniture except for Arctek ones cannot be found in the world nor can they be obtained from any creatures except during event times.
